New Beginning
One room school houses, ink wells and quill pens were once the standard tools of education, but when students walk into the classroom at DeKalb Technical College for the 2009 fall quarter the only thing similar to that by-gone era will be the teacher and an educational mission. The blackboards are no longer black, students will take notes with ergonomically correct pens, and the “school house” has transformed into a multi-level, multi-building electronic educational Mecca.

As DeKalb Tech approaches nearly a half-century of educational excellence, the next step in our evolution will incorporate green technology and social media, a new student services area and a new website.
We are at the dawn of a new and exciting era at DeKalb Tech. We have charted a course through turbulent, yet exciting times. We face the challenges of economic uncertainty, a faltering job market, and a climate filled with fears of swine flu. With our motivating force being the passion of a dedicated faculty to fulfill dreams of a better tomorrow for thousands of students, our success is assured. The future is indeed bright.
We enter the fall quarter with excitement. Enrollment tops 4,500 students. For the first time we are offering classes in the new Green Technologies Academy. The third class of our Law Enforcement Academy is in the midst of their training. As we expand our reach into the community we are now connecting with our graduates, local businesses, current and prospective students through our new social media campaign. You can follow us at Facebook, Twitter and YouTube by searching for “GoDeKalbTech”.
We are full-steam-ahead on our journey together. I am proud to be a part of such a dynamic organization. I hope you will join me in making the fall 2009 quarter our best ever.
