Financial Help for Child Care

Date: 17 Dec 2009 Comments: 0

If you’re looking for financial help with child care so you can continue your education at DeKalb Technical College, then help is on the way for qualified students. The Department of Human Services (DHS) is using some of its federal stimulus funds to provide child care assistance. Many of DeKalb Tech students will qualify for these funds based on being enrolled in a technical college, unemployed or working part-time, earning less than $42,400 in annual income (for a family of four), and having a child 12 years old or younger (or 17 years or younger if they have special needs).

When a student goes on line they will complete the basic application for childcare and/or food stamps assistance. Once this application is submitted, someone will contact them in about 2-3 weeks. The student will be asked to provide a picture ID, check stub (if working), birth certificate(s) for child(ren) needing daycare, a rate sheet from the day care facility and proof that they are enrolled in a technical college.

Francine Shuman will be glad to answer any other questions regarding this topic. Also TaJuanna Jones at DHS said she would be glad to be of assistance in any way. She can be contacted at tajones@dhr.state.ga.us
