Campus safety and security is of the utmost importance to college Administators, faculty, and staff. Not only are we concerned for the safety of our students, but also for all who are a part of the college community. As President of DeKalb Technical College, I felt it vital to allocate college resources for DeKalb Tech to have its very own Police Department with a Chief and Assistant Chief of Police, who augment their services by hiring additional security officers to work with them to ensure safety on all of DTC’s college campuses.
To continue to ensure that DeKalb Tech remains as safe as possible, the time has come that we must begin to ask all DeKalb Tech students, administrators, faculty, and staff to wear the current DTC picture I.D. which they have in their possession. Several questions come to mind when you implement a requirement such as this…..How will we make sure that everyone complies with this request…..Who will be responsible for enforcing the wearing of the I.D…….What will we do if people refuse to comply?
In order to have these and other questions answered, I have asked my Executive Vice President to have a meeting with all key players who have a stake in helping maintain the safety and security of our college. At this meeting I am requesting that a plan be put together that will outline all facets of how we will ensure that all who attend, work at, or visit DTC will wear their picture I.D. or a visitors pass. My goal date for having full implementation of this plan will be Spring Quarter 2010.
More to come………………….
